There’s no shortage of stories about dog loyalty, and heartwarming photos like this one prove just how affectionate they can be. When a homeless man in Brazil was taken to hospital, medics thought he was alone in the world. But as everyone knows, he has some of the greatest, most caring, most loyal friends waiting for him in front of the hospital.
For nearly 20 years, Luis has lived on the streets of Cianorte, Paraná, Brazil. Although he has no family, he is never been alone because his furry friends is always there for him, even in his toughest times. One night, the man suffered a stroke. Fortunately, some passersby noticed he had some serious problems and they called an ambulance. Louis was rushed to hospital minutes later, but his worried friends never left him.
The six dogs that Louis took care of chased the ambulance all the way to the hospital. When they arrived at the hospital, they just laid down the ground in front of the entry and patiently waited for their human to get better. That moment was captured on camera and has since become popular.
When hospital staff noticed that the dogs hadn’t left, they called volunteers at Amigos de Patas Cianorte, a nonprofit animal welfare agency, to take care of them. But none of the dogs wanted to leave the place, so they continued to wait for Louis.
“He lives with his friends, treats them well, he shares everything with them,” Amigos de Patas Cianorte wrote on Facebook. “He had a stroke that night… His paw friends were with him and they were waiting for him in front of the hospital. They were there to keep watch.”
The next morning, Louis was out of the hospital, but he came out the other door – unaware that his faithful friends were waiting for him.
“The dogs are desperate,” Simone Ziliane, a volunteer at Amigos de Patas Cianorte, told Brazilian publication G1. “On Thursday morning, when Louis was discharged and left with his brother through another door, the dogs remained at the entrance of the hospital. An NGO volunteer had to take Louis to his brother’s house and take him to where the dogs were for them to leave the front.”
Shortly, Luiz and his caring friends have been reunited!
