Animal shelters aren’t the best places for dogs to stay for an extended period of time. While we are grateful that these dogs have a place to call home and food to eat, we understand that being in a shelter can be extremely stressful. It is extremely loud, with constant barking. The kennels are usually sparsely furnished. A shelter can be a frightening place for a dog who has been separated from its family.
Carson, a sweet Pit Bull, found himself on his own in a shelter. His family decided they’d had enough of him and surrendered him. He had allergies that caused skin problems, but he was otherwise a good dog. Understandably, the shelter environment was too much for him. He was lying in a corner, shivering uncontrollably. He didn’t even pause for a breather. Everyone’s hearts were broken as he shook so violently.
Carson was discovered by a rescue group called Philly Bully Team, and a volunteer named Lauren decided to sign him out of the shelter and bring him home. Carson, she knew, needed to feel safe, which he would never get in a shelter.
Carson thanked his savior right away by never leaving her side. Carson followed Lauren wherever she went. They were made for each other. Lauren recognized that this puppy required constant comfort, and she provided it.
Lauren recognized that they were a perfect match and informed the rescue group that she wanted to finalize the adoption. They were in agreement! Carson is so happy to be with Lauren that he won’t let her go anywhere without him following her around. Except when she needs to get things done, it’s very endearing. Working from home is appealing! A 60-pound dog on your lap can be inconvenient. Lauren, on the other hand, is such a good sport!
Carson’s favorite pastime, aside from snuggling, is going for walks and looking for the best sticks. He enjoys carrying a stick in his mouth while walking around. “His whole body wags,” Lauren says. It’s so heartwarming to see a dog transform from a scared and shaking puppy to a happy boy.
Carson jumps on the couch when he gets home from his walks and gives the best tail wags. All you can hear is his happy tail slapping. “His mission in life is to cuddle on the couch with me,” his mother, Lauren, says in the video below. Carson appears to have his priorities straight!
It’s a victory every time a dog is rescued from a shelter and adopted. Many people are overwhelmed by statistics, but we can assure you that each precious life is important. That is why it is so important to share stories like Carson’s. Too many people seek out puppies from breeders, despite the fact that there are many deserving animals waiting to be adopted. It’s not acceptable! Let’s share Carson’s story because adoption is the only way to go! In the video below, The Dodo shows Carson’s new happy life.
