Beth and Michael Clark are the kind of animal heroes who donate blankets to animal shelters during the winter to provide these homeless dogs with some comfort and warmth.
But after a trip to Anne Arundel County Animal Control in December 2015 to donate blankets and supplies, they went home with something special.
The couple made eye contact with a grieving 17-year-old dog named Rocky and couldn’t leave him.
“I saw this gray-faced, bony dog and I said to my husband, ‘We’re going to catch him,'” Beth told TODAY. “I didn’t want that old man to die in the cage.”
“Rocky made our lives very whole,” Beth told TODAY.
“He loves dancing with us, he loves being with us…it got harder and harder for him to climb stairs and walks over time, so my husband would carry him up the stairs every night so he could Next to us.” It’s okay to sleep, instead of going for a walk, we just sit outside together in the sun.”
When Beth found out she was pregnant, she was ecstatic and told TODAY the bigger she was, the softer Loki was. He is a huge support system for expectant mothers in Maryland.
Rocky’s health begins to deteriorate
The couple even announced their pregnancy with a picture of Rocky and a sign on it that read: “Mom and Dad are going to find me a man!”
But Rocky’s health began to decline when Beth was seven months pregnant and they were told their lovely old dog might have a tumor.
The day Beth and Michael brought their new girl home, Rocky sniffed her and put his head on her, but his health was deteriorating and the couple knew it was time to let their beloved dog go.
“I called the vet and he and his family went to see him peacefully that night,” Beth told TODAY. “We love him more than words can describe and we’re still having a hard time getting used to the fact that he’s not here.”
The Clarks believe that Loki insists on seeing his new human sister.
You are great animal heroes, Beth and Michael! Thank you for choosing to adopt Rocky and have his final years happy and loved.
Please share to pay tribute to this special couple and their adorable dog Rocky who will never be forgotten.
