Five-year-old pooch Picasso was born with a twisted snout while his new best pal Newt, one, was left with no upper jaw after being bitten by his mum as a pup.
Two dogs with severe facial deformities have formed an unbreakable bond.
Liesl Wilhardt, 53, founder and director of Lovable Dog Rescue, has shared a glimpse into Picasso and Newt’s unbreakable friendship.
Both dogs have severe facial deformities, but they live happily on 55 acres of land in Oregon, the United States.
Liesl adopted Picasso in 2017 after his brother died unexpectedly, and then adopted Newt in 2021, and the two became inseparable very quickly.
Picasso, who is five, was born with a twisted snout, while Newt, who was one at the time, was left with no upper jaw after his mother bit him.
Despite the challenges they face on a daily basis as a result of their deformities and Newt’s medical issues, the couple now has a very happy life.
We see their friendship in a series of clips from their daily activities, such as feeding, playing together, going for walks, and picking berries.
“It was a miracle that Picasso survived as a baby,” Liesl said, “because it would have been very difficult for him to even nurse from his mother.”
Newt has faced many more difficulties, the majority of which are not related to his missing upper jaw.
Because both Picasso and Newt adore people, they are very outgoing and seek attention in public, and they enjoy greeting people. Most people do a double take right away and then stare at the dogs for a while, trying to figure out what they’re seeing.
“They are not in any pain; they have learned to adapt to their physical limitations and can do almost anything they want.”
“Picasso adored Newt from the start because he enjoys playing and wrestling and is such a sweetheart.
“As Newt grew older, our friendship grew stronger.”
“I adore Picasso and Newt with all of my heart; they are both incredibly loving, happy, intelligent, and entertaining dogs.”
