LAWRENCE, Mass. — A dog found living in a Lawrence storage unit with no heat needs a “hospice home” to spend the rest of her days.
Lambchop, the dog, was discovered severely underweight and matted. She is deaf and blind, and her teeth are mostly missing.
Lawrence police are investigating the case.
Lambchop’s owner agreed to give her to Sweet Paws Rescue in exchange for a monetary donation. She’s been groomed and seen a veterinarian, who prescribed arthritis medication.
“It literally breaks my heart,” says the speaker. Lambchop’s foster mom, Sam Upton, described people as “awful” for treating dogs in this manner. “I can’t imagine being in this scary, dark place and then being picked up and shaved.”
While Sweet Paws searches for a long-term “hospice home,” Upton jumped at the chance to take Lambchop in.
Lambchop is a senior poodle mix, but her exact age is unknown, according to Sweet Paws Rescue.
“She and other dogs like her are just looking for people who will help make them comfortable and do their best to give them the best last couple of years of their lives,” Upton said. “Obviously, you can’t change the entire world, but you can change the entire world of one dog.”
Email info@sweetpawsrescue.org if you’re interested in adopting Lambchop. Lambchop’s potential adopter must have a flexible schedule and live close to Haverhill, Massachusetts, for his veterinary visits.
“She doesn’t mind being held, kissed, and loved,” Upton said of Lambchop.
