This is the heartbreaking moment a stray puppy wept over its friend’s dead body, refusing to leave his side.
The video, which has been viewed over five million times online, shows the puppy standing over its deceased companion in the county of Daying, Suining City, Sichuan Province, China.
Mr. Xiong, a passing pedestrian, came over to assist the puppy and was taken aback by its refusal to abandon its deceased companion.
With high-pitched, mournful cries, the small dog appears to be staring into the camera and pleading for help.
One was already dead, and the other was weak and dying, “Mr. Xiong explained.”

The video was taken on October 25, and it shows the deceased dog lying prone while the injured dog stands over it.
Mr. Xiong had no choice but to leave the dead dog behind and take the one that was still alive.
He explained that he had wrapped it in a piece of clothing and returned it.
Mr. Xiong took the last stray to his workplace, where his coworkers fed the frail puppy.
He and his coworkers were unable to keep the dog, so they placed it in a cardboard box and delivered it to a local animal shelter.
“I hope some kind-hearted person will adopt it,” Mr. Xiong said.
