Hazel was on the lookout for her perfect home, but it was taking a long time.
Even the sweetest pit bulls can be difficult to find a home for, and adding a disability like blindness can make it even more difficult.
Hazel was placed with a loving foster family while she awaited the arrival of her forever family. Sheloved never met her foster family before, but she knew how much she loved them.
Her foster parents made sure their home was ready for Hazel, securing the furniture in case she bumped into anything and making sure no unexpected obstacles were left out each night. They worked with her on how to use verbal cues to guide her and keep her safe.
Hazel was a wonderful dog who was sweet and loving, but her foster family felt she was hiding a part of herself.
They finally got the news they’d been waiting for: Hazel had been approved for surgery to correct her blindness!
They took her to an animal hospital for surgery, which went well. Her foster parents were told that it would take some time for her to regain her vision after the procedure, but it was clear that Hazel was already seeing.
It was so sweet when she saw her foster parents for the first time! She finally got to see them after all the time she’d spent with them.
Hazel not only regained her vision, but she also gained a new sense of self-assurance. She crossed the street and played with toys with a bit more zeal than usual. She’s even started playing fetch, which she never did when she was blind!
Hazel was eventually adopted and appears to be doing well with her new family and vision.
