Every dog deserves a warm and loving home, which is why seeing dogs on the street hurts so much. When the animal rescue group Hope for Paws found that a dog was living alone in a shoebox, it took action right away.
When the Chihuahua’s rescuers lifted her up, they noticed she wasn’t like other dogs. A dog’s homelessness does not rule out the possibility of finding a new home. So it was for a little Chihuahua who was kept in a shoebox in a Los Angeles home’s backyard.
A neighbor assumed the dog belonged to the people next door for five months, but when he found the dog was actually homeless, he contacted animal rescue.
Eldad and Loreta from Hope for Paws went straight to the house to save the little dog when they heard the story last November.
In the rain, they found the little dog lying still in a shoebox. They attached a leash to her first, and when they lifted her up, they noticed something unusual about her.
They named the dog Princess because she was missing one of her forelegs and didn’t appear to be able to walk properly. They wrapped her in a towel, drove her to an animal hospital, and gave her a warm bubble bath.
Princess was examined by a veterinarian after she was cleaned up and fed a hearty meal. The little doggie turned out to be in shockingly bad shape. She had a disease that made her weak and tired all of the time.
Princess was anemic, meaning she meant enough red blood cells and hemoglobin in her blood.
For a few weeks, the vet kept her under her supervision until she was strong enough to get out of bed and begin living the life that dogs were meant to live.
Princess was soon running around on her three legs, seeming to enjoy the people she was surrounded by.
Then, in March, Hope For Paws announced that Princess had been placed in a foster home.
We’re happy that these animal lovers found Princess and rescued her! Please consider sharing this article with your friends to help us spread the word about Hope For Paws’ important work!
