Mercy the Pit Bull was dumped in a pile of trash by a secluded roadside in Echo Lake, Texas, about 4 years ago. Dog fighting rings were known to congregate in the area.
Mercy sat in her own urine and feces for several days, disoriented and paralyzed, but no one bothered to stop and check on her.
Mercy had given up all hope of survival by the time Judy Obregon, the founder of “Tao Animal Rescue,” came across her.
The weak and disabled creature began wagging her tail vigorously as soon as Judy approached her, signaling that she was alive and breathing. She must have been terrified and alone the entire time.
Judy rushed the sickly Pit Bull to her truck, where she would be driven to the hospital. Mercy, who was terrified, extended her paw to her rescuer and pleaded with her to hold it.
For the rest of the ride, Judy comforted the pooch and assured her that she was in good hands.
Mercy was not hit by a car, but she did have several old and new fractures that indicated she had been abused for a long time, according to the vet at the hospital.
The dog was put on a strict recovery schedule, but she couldn’t eat or go to the bathroom for the first few days of her treatment.
Mercy gave her caregivers the best gift ever when she began walking on her own after months of surgeries, monitoring, and rehab.
The video below not only shows her triumphant recovery, but also the bright young lady she has grown into in her forever home!
Mercy’s emotional attachment to her pink rabbit plush toy, which Judy gave her shortly after her rescue, is the most powerful aspect of her story.
She’s had the toy for four years and refuses to give it up. Even in the darkest of times, Mercy’s toy will always be a symbol of hope and faith!
Watch Mercy’s heartbreaking journey after she was cruelly abandoned to die on the streets in the video below.
