There are so many healthy dogs in need of homes that an injury or disability can quickly become a death sentence for a pup waiting to find a forever family. As shelters become overcrowded, more dogs are euthanized, particularly those who may be difficult to place.
However, some rescue organizations, such as Sidewalk Specials, step in and care for even the most challenging of dogs. They rescue dogs from abusive situations and euthanasia lists, and they work with them until they find the perfect home for them.
Willow, one of their rescue dogs, would have been destined for euthanasia or life on the streets if they hadn’t intervened.
After being the victim of a hit-and-run, the dog was taken to the vet. Her owners wanted her to be saved at first, but after learning that the vet would have to amputate her leg, they decided they no longer wanted her. Her “family” left the vet clinic without looking back, leaving Willow behind.
Thankfully, things started to look up for the sweet dog not long after that! She was adopted into a wonderful home and now has a canine sister!
