Something was wrong when Animal Aid Unlimited rescuers in India came across a dog laying on the side of the road.
They’re used to seeing street dogs, but they could tell this one was hurt. He was in desperate need of assistance.
The poor thing was lying motionless on the side of the road. He’d apparently been hit by a car and left helpless and unable to move. He wasn’t even able to lift his head!
Rescuers rushed the dog, whom they named Batani, to the vet and put him on pain medication right away. During the examination, it was discovered that Batani had a spinal injury.
Batani’s situation was dire, but the rescuers were determined to give him the best chance of survival. They began a treatment plan that included hand-feeding the poor pup because he couldn’t lift his head.
Batani began therapy as time went on, and he gradually gained enough strength to lift his head and eat food on his own. He then began to move more of his body, and the rescue team determined that he was strong enough to go outside and interact with other dogs.
He attempted to stand up one day! His legs were shaky, but he had determination. Batani was either going to walk again or die trying, you could see it in his eyes.
Slow but steady progress was made. Batani regained enough strength to stand up and even take a few tentative steps after more therapy and rest. His progress was praised by his medical team, and he continued to defy the odds!
He’s like a completely different dog now. Batani not only learned his ability to stand and walk, but he also learned to run and play!
He enjoys chasing other dogs around and you’d never guess he’s bedridden and unable to move.
