As police officers were leaving a call at a Florida home, they heard something that stopped them in their tracks, a faint whimpering.
As the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office recounted on its Facebook page, deputies followed that cry to a septic drain in an empty lot.
What’s at the bottom of the drain?
A drenched puppy unable to climb out.
At first it was faint, but as they traced the whimpering to its source, it became clear that an animal was trapped somewhere. When the officers finally found out who was crying, they discovered a drenched puppy trapped at the bottom of a drainage ditch.
It didn’t take long for the officers to pull the puppy out of the drain. However, cleaning him up required more effort. They had to bathe the dog several times!
After failing to find the dog’s owner, Officer James Gettings came to the realization that meeting this puppy was more than a coincidence!
On the spot, Gettings decided to adopt the puppy, whom he naturally named Puddle.
And just like that, Puddle went from the bottom of the drain to top dog at his new forever home.
