An example of this boundless compassion and empathy was put on display when 4 month old boxer mix Sammie was admitted to an animal shelter. Sammie was in bad shape and scared of his new surroundings until Simon came into his room to reassure him. Get your tissues ready, because you’re going to need them for this one.
“Sammie was terrified and perplexed when he first arrived at the shelter. Who could fault him? He’d been spray painted, shot in the head, and dragged behind their car. These kinds of stories make me sick to my stomach.”
However, soon after he was brought in, another abused dog named Simon seemed to know that he needed a friend. Unprompted, Simon entered Sammie’s room and lightly rested his paw against Sammie’s. I don’t know what will move you to tears if this image doesn’t.
Simon is no longer leaving Sammie’s side. The two have become friends and appear to share a special bond.
Despite the fact that they were rescued weeks apart, the two dogs seem to know that they came from similar situations.
This little guy is in desperate need of love and support. How could you possibly do something so heinous to this adorable little face?
While Simon will be available for adoption soon, Jackie O’Sullivan, co-founder of Rescue Dogs Rock NYC, has stated that Sammie’s recovery will take some time. She also told her friends, “The compassion and understanding between animals is beyond me.” That is something I wholeheartedly agree with.
I don’t think we’ll ever understand how Simon knew Sammie needed a friend at that point. Thankfully, he knew and was able to be there for Sammie in a way that no human could. This little guy needs all the help he can get, so if you can help in any way, please do.
