Bal Bal the dog is an everyday fixture at a remote country bus station in South Korea. Daily commuters are accustomed to seeing the fluffy pooch waiting by the road all day, keeping an eye out for passing buses, rain, shine, or snow.
His gloomy face lights up with hope every time random people climb down any bus, as if he is trying to find a special person. But over the day, his eyes swell up in tears as the person he anticipates doesn’t arrive.
Bal Bal’s lonely crusade near the bus station drew attention, leaving everyone wondering about the tragic reason for his behavior.
Some people began observing Bal Bal throughout the day, keeping his well-being in mind. But what they discovered warmed their hearts on so many levels!
Bal Bal’s actions, it turns out, are a daily ritual to greet his elderly caretaker grandma, who arrives by bus and whom he adores and literally worships with all his heart.
It all started when Grandma discovered Bal Bal after he was hit by a car. He had no movement and was about to die, but Grandma didn’t give up on him and nursed him back to life.
When Bal Bal recovered, he became his savior’s fiercely loyal protector, always by her side like glue. He refused to leave the lonely Grandma’s humble home and vowed to care for her when no one else would.
He’d go crazy whenever Grandma was out of sight, and wouldn’t stop crying until he was back in her arms.
Bal Bal’s gratitude for Grandma and the way he follows her around is ethereal. Despite his loyal companionship, Grandma despises the fact that he spends the entire day risking his life at the bus station waiting for her.
She’s tried locking him in the large greenhouse while she’s gone, but out of fear, Bal Bal rips the plastic wall down to follow his precious human.
