The tiny child was deserted in the Chattisgarh province of India but after being found by a dog, its puppies helped keep the newborn – now named Akanksha – warm until she was rescued.
One of the responsibilities of parents is to care for and raise their child. However, some parents willfully terminate a pregnancy or abandon their baby shortly after birth. Locals in the Saristal village of Lori, India, were shocked to discover a few-day-old newborn alone in a puppy nest earlier this month.
When the baby, now named Akanksha, was discovered, she was naked and holding her umbilical cord. She was also surrounded by puppies. Munnalal Patel, a local, was on his way out to do chores when he heard the baby crying.
“At 11 a.m., we discovered a newborn baby girl crying and lying alongside puppies in our village.”
“We panicked and notified the health department before the newborn was taken to the hospital for further examination,” he explained.
“It’s possible that the warmth from the puppies and their mother kept this newborn alive. The temperature usually drops at night, and it’s already December. “I must say, it’s her sheer luck,” said a local who requested anonymity.
Stray dogs are believed to be vicious, but they were fortunate not to harm the baby. Doctors discovered that the child was completely unharmed. The Child Line Project is now caring for her. However, police are conducting an investigation to find her parents.
