On July 16, Officer Sara Rogers of the Augusta Police Department was dispatched to retrieve an abandoned, injured dog.
While authorities searched for her owner, she took the puppy to a local veterinarian.
Officer Rogers checked on the puppy throughout her shift to ensure she was okay until Kennebec Humane Society employees arrived.
Officer Rogers even took a meal with the puppy, and the two of them had formed a strong bond.
Rogers realized she had to do more to help this sweet puppy. They never found an owner, so she decided to foster her until she was ready for adoption.
Rogers, on the other hand, couldn’t bear the thought of letting the puppy go when it came time to find her a forever home.
Rogers made the decision to keep the puppy, which she named Rey after a Star Wars Jedi.
The Augusta Police Department shared a photo of the adorable couple along with the touching story on their Facebook page.
