A sweet dog is finally receiving veterinary care after his former owners ignored his massive salivary tumor for an astounding six years. Jake was loved by his former family, but they did not take him to a veterinarian when his face began to swell, according to the Long Way Home rescue group.
“Jake has been living with a salivary tumor for (according to the owners) SIX YEARS, as they assumed it was the result of a snake bite. He was raised as an indoor dog, is extremely well-behaved, potty trained, gets along well with other dogs, and even knows how to shake.” According to the group
Last week, after Jake was found roaming in a rural part of Texas, Cribs for Canines began working to get his family to relinquish custody in order to get Jake the veterinary care he so desperately needs. Jake is receiving care in Waco, and he has already experienced significant relief as a large amount of fluid was drained. According to the organization.
We are extremely grateful to the wonderful staff at Texas Animal Medical Center in Waco, where Dr. Lide and his team have been treating Jake and have even drained 1200cc of salivary fluid from his neck. (See the last two photos to see what a huge difference it made!)
“Jake was able to turn his head for THE FIRST TIME IN SIX YEARS. It was such a simple thing that could have been done to give him! He is eating and pooping normally, is in good spirits, and is otherwise in excellent health.” The agency said
There are no guarantees that Jake will recover completely, but caring individuals are working hard to give him the best chance possible. Follow his rescuers at this link to Facebook.
